U.S. President Donald J. Trump reportedly rejected a plan from the Israeli government to kill Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. This information was first reported by Associated Press (AP), based on a source from a senior U.S. official who was directly involved in the talks.
According to the report, Israel once proposed a secret operation to eliminate the top spiritual and political leader of Iran. However, Trump rejected the idea, saying, “Iran hasn’t killed a single American.”
“We’re not even at the point of talking about attacking their political leader,” Trump said, as quoted in the report.
Why Trump Said No
Trump was reportedly worried that such an action could start a large war in the Middle East. As president, he was known for trying to avoid big military conflicts, even though he had a tough stance on Iran.
Israel’s Response
So far, the Israeli government has not confirmed whether the report is true. A source close to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the story was “baseless political fiction.”
However, international media like Reuters, Politico, and CBS News reported that high-level talks between Washington and Tel Aviv did include discussions about such a plan.
The Iran-Israel Tension
This report comes at a time when tension between Iran and Israel is rising, especially after Israel launched major airstrikes on key Iranian sites in early June 2025.
Even after being warned to talk peacefully with Iran, Israel instead chose to attack. This makes many people see Israel as the one who started the war in the Middle East. While the world wants peace and dialogue, Israel responded with war as their solution.
Conclusion: Diplomacy or Escalation?
Trump’s rejection of Israel’s extreme plan shows that even strong leaders have limits they do not want to cross to keep global peace. As Trump said, he prefers peace without war. In a world that is growing more tense, decisions like this give us a moment to think about moral and political limits in modern geopolitics.
